The Western Sichuan Gas Field, developed by Sinopec's Southwest China Petroleum Bureau, recently obtained a new high-yield ultra-deep well, according to the bureau.

The Pengzhou 5-1D Well, an ultra-deep horizontal well in the Western Sichuan Gas Field, has achieved a daily output of 950,000 cubic meters of natural gas in test production. It is currently the deepest among wells that have finished drilling in the Western Sichuan Gas Field, with a depth of 8,208 meters and a horizontal length of 1,878 meters.

Located on the western edge of the Chengdu Plain, the Western Sichuan Gas Field covers an area of about 139 square kilometers, with the main reservoir buried at a depth of about 5,700-6,200 meters. The structure of the gas reservoir is ultra-deep and quite complex, making drilling and construction extremely difficult.

To develop the gas field in a scientific manner and with high efficiency, the Southwest Petroleum Bureau established a multi-party drilling team to develop and improve technologies and techniques for drilling and the construction of ultra-deep horizontal wells.

With proven natural gas reserves exceeding 100 billion cu m, the Western Sichuan Gas Field is the third large-scale marine-origin gas field discovered by Sinopec in the Sichuan Basin, and is an important part of a 100-billion-cu-m national natural gas production base in the Sichuan and Chongqing area.

The Western Sichuan Gas Field has drilled 16 wells, all of which have achieved high production. Construction of the gas field is scheduled to be fully completed and put into production at the end of 2023, with daily natural gas output exceeding 5.4 million cu m, equivalent to the daily gas demands of 7.5 million urban households.
