Oscar-nominated 'Jojo Rabbit' to hit Chinese theaters

Director Taika Waititi's anti-fascist comedy-drama Jojo Rabbit received six Oscar nominations on Monday and will soon be released across China.Based on Christine Leunens's book Caging Skies, the film tells the story of how love and tolerance can help heal a cruel world, as a young German boy – while interacting with his unusual imaginary friend Adolf Hitler – discovers that his mother is hiding a Jewish girl in their attic. The movie also stars Scarlett Johansson, Rebel Wilson, Stephen Merchant, Alfie Allen and Sam Rockwell.The film had its world premiere at the 44th Toronto International Film Festival on September 8, 2019, where it took home the top prize, the Grolsch People's Choice Award. In the US, it was chosen by the National Board of Review and the American Film Institute as one of the 10 best films of the year. At the 92nd Academy Awards, the film received six nominations for Best Picture, Best Supporting Actress, Best Adapted Screenplay, Best Production Design, Best Costume Design and Best Film Editing.The film has already received rave reviews from Chinese critics and a small group of Chinese moviegoers who have watched the film in other countries. On China's film rating website Douban, the film currently has a high score of 8.5/10 based on nearly 14,900 reviews.Disney and its newly acquired Fox Searchlight Pictures will distribute Jojo Rabbit in China from Feb. 12, 2020. The movie will be showing in theaters under the National Alliance of Arthouse Cinemas (NAAC), a group formed in 2016 and operated by the China Film Archive and a consortium of theater chains supporting art-house films.(CHINA.ORG.CN)
