Vietnam's stamp design used among ASEAN nations

Xinhua | Fri,2015-03-27

The stamp and postmark designed by Vietnamese artists will be produced as a joint issue stamp within the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) on Aug. 8, 2015 to celebrate the association's 48th founding anniversary and the formation of the ASEAN Economic Community by Dec. 31, 2015.

Artists Vu Kim Lien and Nguyen Du from the Vietnam Post Corporation (Vietnam Post) became winners of the official stamp and postmark contest organized by the Thailand Post with joint efforts from the posts of other nine ASEAN members, local Vietnam News daily reported Thursday.

The 10 flags of the ASEAN country members make up the main pattern of the stamp, stitched together to become a flower, while yellow cornflowers are stylized behind the main pattern to represent the substantial potential of ASEAN members to develop their agricultural economies.

The designs reflect the ASEAN's motto of"One vision, one identity, one community,"and the joint stamp and postmark are of significance in promoting postal cooperation among the ASEAN state members, Nguyen Quang Vinh, deputy head of the postal stamp board under the Vietnam Post, was quoted in the report as saying.

The issuing of a joint stamp for ASEAN member countries was recommended by the Thailand Post at the ASEAN Postal Business Meeting (APBM) in Cambodia in 2012. The organizing board received 30 stamp designs and 25 postmark designs from all 10 ASEAN nations.

Founded in 1967, the ASEAN currently consists of 10 countries including Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam.
